There are three types of particles : the neutrons and the protons which composed the stone of particle, and the electrons around the stone.

The electrostatic charges


The protons have a positive charge (+ 1,6 .10-19 Coulomb) and the neutrons a negative one (- 1,6 .10-19 C). The neutrons are neutral. The positive and negative charges are usually in equal quantity and a material should be neutral.
But, by the fact that they are on orbit, the electrons often transfer themselves from a particle to an other. The material becomes positive if it losts electrons and negative if it recepts electrons. A friction between two materials causes negative charges on one and positive on the other.


Electrostatic strength


When two objects are charged, there is a strength between themselves. If the objects have the same sign, there will be a repulsive strength. But if they have an opposite sign, there will be an attractive strength.

Conductive and insulating materials


There are two types of solid materials: the conductive and the insulating bodies.
In insulating ones, the electrons are well linked to the stone and, so they are very resistant to the external strengths. There aren't many electrons transfers in insulating materials. The main part of plastic material are insulating, and the main part of our equipment treats them.
In conductive ones, electrons can quit easily the stone.
The electrostatic discharges are caused by an excessive storage of charges (frictions...). The storages concern, particularly, in insulating material because in conductive ones there are many discharges and so low storage.


How could we neutralise static electricity ?
